Jwara (Fever)Jwara itself is a disease as well as a symptom for many diseases. Hence it is given top most importance in treatment aspects in Ayurveda.
Types: #
Includes Sareeraka-manasika jwara, Santata-satata jwara, Dosha vaishamyaja, Dathugatha jwara, Abhigatha jwara, Aama jwara, Agantuja jwara, Kama-Soka-bhayaja jwara
Nidana #
(Causes): According to Ayurveda, Jwara is the roga originated due to aama (undigested food which remains in the body). Not only indigested food, any unwanted or toxic deposions in assimilation process of food leads to jwara.
Physical strain,mental strain, fear, over enthusiasm, over eating, unwholesome diet , too hot-too cold food intake,excess indulge in sexual activity, imposed abstinence are some of the reasons for cause of Jwara.
Roopa #
(Symptoms): Includes- raise in body temperature, feeling of hot sense in mouth, eyes & ears,Body aches, weakness, dryness of mouth, thirst,twisting pain in calf muscles.
Some times high fever may leads to epilepsy (fits in lame).
Line of treatment: #
Treatment includes symptomatic first for external temperature followed by nidana parivarjana(avoiding the causative factor for fever), langhana(Fasting for indigestion), followed by laghu ahara sevana(intake of light ,easily digestable food) and samana aushada(medication).
Patya-Apatya #
(Diet chart): No solid food to be taken with raise in temperature. If taken may leads to vomiting or diarrohea which will become more complicated.
More of liquid diet or semi solid diet like water,fresh juices, buttermilk, soups are recommended till all the symptoms get subsided.
Strightly avoid heavy food–like bread,non-veg,milk,panner, hot,spicy foods and drinks includes alcohol, carbonated drinks and cold foods like icecreams,chilled water.
Medication: Commonly used medicines for fever includes- Mrutyunjay ras, Giloy sat, Mahasudarshan kwath.
Note: Any type of fevers may leads to complications if not get subsided with in 12hours without recurrence.Seek Doctor’s advise for better evolution.
Modern view: #
Fever is considered as one of the symptom for many diseases in modern science. Commonly considered fevers include: Enteric fever (Typhoid), Dengue fever, Malaria fever, Chickengunia which are commonly of parasite origin. Hidden infections may also show Fever as primary symptom.Treatment includes management of bodily temperature, rehydration, and evolution of cause of fever.
