PANDU (ANEMIA)Pandu means pallor or paleness.
Types: Vataja, pittaja, kaphaja, sannipatika, mrud – bhakshanajanya.
Nidana – samprapti: #
Nidanam includes intake of kshara (alkalin), amla (sour), lavana( salty), katu (panjant), ushna(hot potency), virudhahara(food of opposite qualities), excessive food intake caontaining legumes, nuts, sesame, fermented foods, day sleep, excessive exercise and sexual activity, suppression of natural urges and psychological factors like worries, anxiety, fear, anger, grief.
Due to the above factors rasadhatu get vitiated by vitiated pitha dosha get lodged in hridaya which is the seat of rasadhatu viatiates all the remaining dhatus which results in diminishing of strength, luster, oiliness and vital essence of the body which results in depletion of bodily tissues mainly paleness of skin as predominant.
Lakshana: Based on the dominance of dosha commonly includes swelling under eyelids, palpitations, dryness, paleness of skin -  lips – palate – eyes – nails, reduced digestive capacity, weakness, giddiness, pain in lower limbs, ringing sense in ears, loss of hair, irritability, unable to hear loud sounds, diminished voice, excessive sleep, dislike to hold things, breathlessness, muscle cramps associated with burning sense in chest, swelling all over the body, yellowish discoloration of urine, tremors, constipation, sour belchings, desire for hot things.
Features of mrudh bhakshanajanya pandu: Due to habits of eating soil or solid non-edible materials like chalks, lime stone, etc. vitiates tridoshas which in turn obstructs channels in the body which makes it rough in nature with appreance of swelling over feet, organs of genetalia and around the umbilicus. Stools are loose and bulky in nature with blood and watery sometimes. Presence of worms in stools appears.
Complications: Includes loss of taste, thirst, vomiting, fever, head ache, oedema, weakness, fainting, drowsiness, edema in throat, cardiac diseases.
Fatal symptoms include swelling all over the body with yellowish discoloration of nails and conjunctiva are fatal symptoms.
Line of treatment: #
Snehana – shodana – deepana – pachana – shaman
Patya - apatya:
Patya includes intake of milk, butter, green leafy vegetables, fruits, wheat is advised, more important in the morning half of the day.
Apatya includes avoid day sleeping.
Medication: #
dathriikshu, dadimadi ghrita, triphala ghrita.

 Anemia Anemia is a blood disorder in which the blood has reduced ability to carry oxygen due to lower than normal number of red blood cells  or a reduction in the amount of hemoglobin in the body.
Types of anemia includes: aplastic anemia, iron deficiency anemia, sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, vitamin deficiency anemia.
  • symptoms includes tiredness, paleness of skin, weakness, shortness of breath,feeling fait & exertion.Symptoms may be quick or slow which may also includes irregular or rapid heartbeat, cold hands & feet, constantly feeling cold, soreness of throat, poor appetite, muscle weakness, chest pain, sweating, increased thirst & confusion.
  • Causes for anemia includes increased destruction of red blood cells due to hereditary causes, enzyme deficiencies, hemoglobinopathys & extrinsic factors includes antibody mediation, transfusion reactions, mechanical trauma to blood loss & parasitic factors.Fluid overload causes decreased hemoglobin concentration and apparent anemia.
  • Treatment for anemia depends on cause and severity. Vitamin & iron supplements given to correct defeciencies. Mild to moderate iron-defeciency anemia is treated by oral supplementation moderate to severe anemia is corrected with injectables and blood transfusions.
